Fleet Field Trip

Review the geology of the region

Join Fleet Space geoscientists Anthony Reid, Dr Tim Jones, and Takeshy Coaquira, guest geologists Gregg Morrison (Klondike Exploration Services) and Hugo Serra, and the Ravenswood Gold geology team for a three-day technical field program in the Ravenswood District, North Queensland.

The program covers:

  • Epithermal training workshop with Gregg Morrison
  • Porphyry exploration using ANT, MT and ML with case study from Valeriano, Chile
  • Applied geochemistry workshop using Fleet's Comet with Takeshy Coaquira


This is a free, by application field trip. All accommodation and meals included.

  • Transport: Fleet-arranged convoy of 4WDs between Townsville and Ravenswood, leaving from Ardo, Townsville

Day 1

22nd of July

Welcome reception at Ardo Rooftop Bar, Townsville

Day 2

23rd of July

A day of workshop sessions including: Epithermal workshop with Gregg Morrison, geochemistry workshop and porphyry exploration using ANT, MT and ML with case study from Valeriano, Chile.

Day 3

24th of July

Ravenswood Gold site visit. Exploring host rocks (Tonalite, granite), hydrothermal alteration types and mineralisation from Sarsfield and Buck Reef pits.

Dr. Morrison

Mineral Exploration and Mining Consultant specialising in gold and basemetals. Ore controls, geological interpretation, hydrothermal system geometry, training.

Hugo Serra

James Cook University

Hugo is an exploration and project geologist currently pursuing a Ph.D. at James Cook University in Australia. His research focuses on the structural evolution and genesis of the Ravenswood Gold Deposit within its broader tectonic context.

Dr. Anthony Reid

Head of Geology, Fleet Space
Technologies

Anthony is a geologist with 20 years experience in regional geology and mineral deposit studies and a PhD from University of Melbourne of tectonic evolution of eastern Tibet. Having worked for many years for the Geological Survey of South Australia, he has experience with applying different geological and geophysical methods to understanding geological processes.

Takeshy Coaquira

Lead Geochemist, Fleet Space
Technologies

Takeshy X. Coaquira is an exploration geologist and geochemist based in Australia. He specializes in copper and gold systems, operating at the intersection of economic geology and applied geochemistry to enhance technical decision-making and exploration targeting.

Dr. Timothy Jones

Head of Exploration Science, Fleet
Space Technologies

Tim has a passion for Earth Science and is currently applying Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) to mineral exploration to help accelerate the discovery of critical minerals needed to decarbonise our economy. He earned his BSc at Macquarie University and PhD at Australian National University.

Day 2

Thursday, July 23 (Townsville)

  • 10:00am-4:00pm: Workshop sessions @ Co-Habitat
    • Epithermal , intrusion-related(incl;porphyry) and orogenic systems
      from Ravenswood and Charter Towers region with Gregg Morrison
    • Applied case study: Methodology and contrasting epithermal vs
      intrusion-related systems using Fleet’s Comet with Takeshy Coaquira
    • Presentation of ATEX Valeriano case study with Tim Jones and
      Anthony Reid
  • 6:30pm - 9:00pm: Private Dining experience at Marmor
  • Accomodation at Ardo, Townsville
Day 3

Friday, July 24 ( Ravenswood Gold)

  • 7.45am: Depart Townsville by convoy
  • 9.30am: Ravenswood Gold site visit led by Hugo Serra, focusing on a
    deposit overview including host rocks (Tonalite,granite), hydrothermal
    alteration types and mineralisation. Includes:
    • Sarsfield pit visit
    • Buck Reef pit visit
    • Technical relationship building with the Ravenswood geology team
    • Sample room and drill core review and technical debrief
  • 3:45pm: Convoy back to Townsville.
